At the University of California, San
Francisco recently a study was done on heart patients who ate a
vegetarian diet with mostly fruit and vegetables and discovered
that their weight loss was an average of 20 pounds
each.
So what were the tips to lose
weight?
One reason was
that enzymes occurring naturally from the fruit and vegetables
helped to speed up the chemical reactions. These foods
stimulated the body to create more enzymes to aid the process
which resulted in a faster metabolism.

What if you
could eat foods that had calories, but hastened the metabolism
which consequently quickened the weight loss – would you do
it?
Unfortunately
most foods we eat are calorie packed, lacking in essential
vitamins and minerals and easy to process meaning that the body
does not have to create the enzymes needed. Another bad mark
against modern foods is that pesticides and pollutants deprive
the food of the nutrients needed to stimulate the enzymes. Add
to that preservatives, processed foods and if you do cook – not
cooking correctly and you have a recipe for disaster – not
recipes for weight loss or good health.
Now fruit and
vegetables also do contain calories, but the difference between
these calories and the ones found in "junk food" is that they,
not only do you get more vitamins and minerals that your body
yearns for, but you have the added benefit of the enzymes and
the reaction of those enzymes as explained above.
So if this is
one of the tips to lose weight - does this mean that you have
to exclude meat from your diet? No. However, it is the amount
of meat and the type of meat that you are eating that needs to
be taken into account.
Ultimately
being able to change to a vegetarian diet would give a definite
advantage but this is something that is very difficult to do if
you are a meat lover.
A lot of
people believe that meat is the best source of protein.
However, this is not exactly right. Everybody needs protein as
it is essential for cell growth, tissue repair and to
manufacture the substances that protect against infection.
However, the daily requirement is really quite small. We really
eat too much protein, so by removing the quantity of meat from
the diet certainly will do no harm as there are enough proteins
found in combinations of vegetarian foods for example grains
and pulses. Cheese and eggs have complete protein and can be on
their own, however, don’t go overboard as they are also rich in
fats.

Reduce the
meat dishes down to only a couple of times a week. Choose fresh
meat preferable organic or free-range and stay away from
processed meats as they contain little or no goodness and are
full of fats.
The main tip
to lose weight is to concentrate on having a balanced diet.
Start by choosing to eat fresh foods. Begin in the vegetable
section of your supermarket and choose vegetables that are in
season. Learn to cook them correctly. Add into the cooking
grains and pulses for example rice, chickpeas, lentils, grain
breads and nuts (preferable raw). Try to avoid anything that is
white, in other words, choose brown, raw or grain. White foods
tend to be over processed and have lost a lot of their dietary
goodness. So go for brown rice or whole meal flour or raw sugar
etc.
Have fun
learning new recipes and enjoy the cooking process. You will be
surprised at the wonderful, tasty meals there are in abundance
out there that will end up helping you lose weight.
